Begin to Start Seeds for Cool Season Veggies, Now
Also, I am planting corn, pumpkins and melons now.
You should begin to start most of your cool season veggie seeds now - except maybe lettuces, because they grow so fast and it is still to hot for them, (unless you want to grow them in the house).  Most of the cool season seedlings you grow can be transplanted into your garden in August through mid-October.  Cool season veggie transplanting begins in just 4 to 6 weeks for most of them.  Just follow my Vegetable Transplanting Guide in my book, "Slam Dunk Easy Desert Gardening."  Look on the list for the veggies you like to eat, buy the seeds and start them.  I know, it's hard to think about harvesting other crops while still picking tomatoes.  But, to harvest food every day of the year you will need to plan ahead.  This is your Heads-up.  The alternative is shopping at the grocery store.  (Bill saw a nice loaf of bread last week, it was $10 - he didn't buy it, (he wants me to bake bread)).
